CARDS

We have a new range of greeting cards in the shop by Melbourne Artist Jessica Robertson.

Roberston builds elaborate sets for her photos of dolls. The cards have an edgy humour exploring themes of revenge, sexual jealousy and narcissism (see photos above). It's amazing how much story telling she manages to squeeze into each tableau.

I love the psychological ambiguity of the card above "The Narcissist" - is Barbie disempowered or is she a willing participant in Ken's masturbatory act of self spectating? Was she co-erced into this subjugated position or is she actively enabling him?

One thing is clear - these cards are not your average greeting card!

STUDIO

Spent all weekend making stuff at the studio. Mainly I'm getting ready for the Brisbane Finders Keepers. We didn't bring enough stuff to the Sydney one - won't make that mistake again.

My studio is behind Michael Koro Gallery. The current show 'New Australian Landscapes' is by Adrian Doyle, which is an elaborate meditation on suburbia. This installation of BMXs was cool.

I don't really talk about The Accident anymore, although I do think about it everyday.

Mainly its just images of intense moments - like when the fireman went back to get my ceramic squirrel or when the bogan dad was stealing my stuff for his little daughter. Weird stuff like that.

I've mentioned it before but for me one of the things I miss the most was the times I spent wandering around the shop staring at all the jewellery. It wasn't so much an act of proprietorship, more a moment of enjoying looking at  a multitude of shiny, cute things.

Today as I was cleaning the shop I felt that way as I peered into my favourite jewellery cabinet. I thought

'Wow, there are lots of earrings here.'

And everything felt OK.

What fashion item says '2010' more eloquently than a beanie? Co-opted by participants in hipster culture in their inexorable quest to look like gay lumberjacks, beanies have reached near ubiquity.

Nothing looks as effortlessly chic as a beanie worn well.

There is something psychologically comforting about wearing a beanie - it makes you feel safe and sound.

I wanted the new range of Corky greeting cards screen printed as screen printing is so much lovelier than digital printing. You get a richer, more textured result - especially in the areas where the colours overlap.

Here is a sneak peek at the next range of Corky porcelain brooches which is a collaboration with Michael Peck.

These delicate drawings will look amazing on porcelain. I can't wait to see how they turn out.

They should arrive at the shop in two or three weeks. I think we might even have a launch for them too - we haven't had a Corky party since May last year.

Mainly everyone talked about Luxirare - whether she is a person or a corporation, and at which point she transitioned. And how to improve your SEOs. And the fact that people can block your IP address.
