POKE
I love these needlepoint cushions made by Brigid Berlin. They are so funny - especially the one of Keith Richards in the top photo.
Berlin was a socialite and one of Andy Warhol's 'Superstars'. Wikipedia reports: "After several years as a reluctant debutante and a failed marriage, Brigid Berlin met Andy Warhol in 1964 and quickly became a central member of his entourage. After moving to Hotel Chelsea, she took on the nickname Brigid Polk because of her habit of giving out 'pokes', injections of Vitamin B and amphetamines."
It's good to see that in her later years she's turned her hand to a more lasting kind of 'needlework'. Though it seems like she'd need some 'pokes' to finish the intricate work on these smart cushion-y odes to pop culture.

LOST
Alot of the fun jewellery I make is one off stuff that you never see again. Like this zombie hand that Elwyn and I made on Xmas eve 07. It was so much fun designing and making it on the spot.
The other piece I would love to see again is the legs wearing stilletos silver necklace I made for Rhys from that TV show "So You Think You Can Dance?". It was so cool the legs moved so they looked like they were walking.
I only had a day to make it and ran out of time. I ran out of time to even photograph it.

LETTER
Love letters are so huge right now. Everyone is writing them. Apparently the latest trend is to write them by hand and physically mail them. I like to write mine on 'onionskin paper' in invisible ink that only becomes legible when held over the naked flame of a candle. Tres Romantic, huh?
If you don't have time to get to the post office you can still get yourself a piece of that love letter pie with these new Sterling Silver studs by local designer Victoria Mason.
Available from Corky Saint Clair $65Au

SALEM
SALEM - DIRT from ACEPHALE on Vimeo.
This is horrible and messy - like David Lynch doing zombie porn. Totally NSFW but so funny. And the track kicks ass.
PS. The music doesn't start until 1.02. press pause and let it load for awhile....

KRAKEN
1. POEM
The Kraken by By Alfred Tennyson
Below the thunders of the upper deep;
Far, far beneath in the abysmal sea,
His ancient, dreamless, uninvaded sleep
The Kraken sleepeth: faintest sunlights flee
About his shadowy sides: above him swell
Huge sponges of millennial growth and height;
And far away into the sickly light,
From many a wondrous grot and secret cell
Unnumbered and enormous polypi
Winnow with giant arms the slumbering green.
There hath he lain for ages and will lie
Battening upon huge sea-worms in his sleep,
Until the latter fire shall heat the deep
Then once by man and angels to be seen,
In roaring he shall rise and on the surface die

HTDW
Enjoy the fuzzy beauty of How To Dress Well. This combines all my favourite reference points - flat, lo fi production, lion king-esque vocals and fuzzy synthesizers - this makes yearning sound cool.

My friend Jack wrote: "If you could run nostalgia through some cheap reverb pedals, and piggy-back it on some clattery thuds and tickity bin-snares, it would probably sound a lot like this"
